First you need to download and install the BaseNav GPS software.
You can download the software to your PC or directly to your mobile device: Download and install

How to use the software

After you have started the software, you get two options: Continue (1) and Continue without GPS (2).
Choose 'Continue'. The software activates the GPS (some devices ask you to accept).

Now the software shows you some basic information.
- Speed, avg. speed
- Course
- Tracking status (Google Maps)
- Longitude, Latitude
- Send (number "send ok" for Google tracking);

If you see ??? the GPS is not ready.

The main menu:

- Load map
- Enable/Disable Google tracking
- Clear track
- Settings

Load map:

You can use two types of maps:
- .cto  - Maps created with Karto (Free program)
- .map - Maps created with OziExplorer

A map allways contains two files (*.jpg (*.jpeg)  and *.cto or *.map)
You can load a map by selecting *.cto  or *.map (not the *.jpg or *.jpeg)

The *.jpg or *.jpeg is the image file.
The *.cto or *.map is the text file which contains the calibration info.

See the section below: Calibrate your maps.

Enable / disable Google tracking:

With this option you can toggle between Google tracking: On or Off.
If you want to make use of Google trackin, you need to create an account.
See:
Track and Trace

Clear track:

This option deletes your track on your mobile map.

Settings:

You can customise your GPS software with these settings. The settings have the following options:
- Unit  -  (NAUTICAL / STATUTE / METRIC)
- Interval track (screen) -  Interval in seconds
- Tracking type - Tracking type for future use
- Internet tracking username - username for Google Maps tracking
- Internet tracking password - password for Google Maps tracking
- Interval track (internet) - interval in seconds Google Maps tracking

Key functions:

- Navigation buttons - Scroll through the map
- Key 2-8  4-6 - Scroll through the map
- Key 1 - Zoom out
- Key 3 - Zoom in
- Key 7 - Full screen
- Key 9 - Normal screen
- Key 5 - Go to your GPS position

The 'wind rose' and the arrow are red when you have a GPS signal, otherwise the 'wind rose' is gray.

Calibrate your maps

Note:
Make sure that the map(s) and image(s) are not too large.
Depending on your device the image cannot be larger than +/- 300kb.
E.g.: Nokia N73 less than 300kb - Nokia N95 less than 350kb.

There are two applications to calibrate your maps with:
- Karto
- OziExplorer

Notes:
- BaseNav only uses the first two calibration points
- The calibration points need to be far apart diagonally
- The top of the image must point to the North.
- The image and calibration file must have the same name (with different extensions)

If your maps don't have longitude / latitude points you can use: http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html

Using Karto:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/karto/

The language of the website and application is French.
Important:  If you download the application, you must change the karto.bat file and set language "en" and country to "GB".

Start the application, load the image and add two calibration points.
The calibration points must be in "degrees dot minutes". The x = longitude and the y = latitude.

Using OziExplorer:

http://www.oziexplorer.com

The demo can only calibrate *.bmp images.
Therefore, it is necessary to convert your images.
